Brief summery: Four short story's told from Fours point of view from the divergent series, Taking place before he meets tris through until the end of the divergent book all from Fours perspective. From Tobias life in Abnegation with Marcus and his initiate training.
Thoughts in a sentence:
Kathy: A new perspective of some of my favourite moments from divergent.
Bee: A better delivery of what Tobias should have been during allegiant.
*disclaimer, spoilers for divergent*
Review:
One part of the story that we loved is that the majority of the characters are a cross over from the divergent books. They are just a younger version of them selves as we would naturally know them for example Uriah he was only a small talking part as his brother was Zeke was a bigger part in the four book where as the was a smaller part in divergent. Allot of other people who work around the Dauntless compound stay the same for example Tori and Max.
Because divergent is a story we all love and know, this book docent need as much world building, and serves as a good prequel, it shows us how dauntless became what tris had to deal with and the changes that took place in such a short amount of time between the two years of four joining dauntless and tris joining. We learn allot more about Marcus Eaton and his treatment of tobias making us really see why four is so scared of him and why he is one of his four fears. To be honest I'm scared of Marcus after the graphic and descriptive scenes with him in.
In this book you sympathise allot more with Four than you do in any of the books from the divergent series. you see how he was before he transferred to dauntless, how what his father had done to him had altered his personality. and made him seam weak. in divergent four is always portrayed as the strong male character but i this it really shows his progression from a shy boy from abnegation to the dauntless initiate trainer. This really highlights how similar the characters of Tris and Four are to one another. And nearer the end of the book when tris came into dauntless basically the whole of the divergent story is condensed into 50 pages and you still feel like you have as much detail and knowledge as if you were reading the book divergent.
In conclusion this was an amazing book that just added to the strength of the divergent series it gave you a new insight and i think maybe some other series should do this (looking at you the hunger games we want a Peeta prequel). I think that this is a must read for any divergent fan or anyone who as read divergent it adds complexity and new Perspective. If they wanted to take more money out of us and make this into a movie with the same actors from divergent although it would be amazing because the story is amazing, i think they would have to recast four to a younger look alike, because Theo James cant even fool us to be an 18 year old he will not be kidding us as a 16 year old shy abnegation boy. over all we loved this book and it made me love tobias even more and tris. You must read this.
May the odds be ever in you favour
