The Maze Runner Cast Q&A - London

On Wednesday the 20th September 2014, I was lucky enough to attend the Maze Runner question and answer session with the cast including Dylan O'Brien, Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Wes Ball. They answered lots of interesting questions about the film and showed us exciting clips. Here are some of the the most interesting moments from the Q&A:

  • The maze runner was only a 42 day shoot! Which as you can imagine is extremely quick.
  • If you have read the books you will know Teresa (played by Kaya) is the only girl in the film however Kaya was there for the whole duration of the shoot and enjoyed being around all the boys (who wouldn't).
  • In the most recent trailer we see Gally (played by Will) push Thomas (played by Dylan) with an impressive amount of force and at the time everyone was talking about it saying 'How can anyone push someone that far?' but Will revealed that Dylan was actually attached to a wire and was hauled backwards to create such an impressive effect.
  • Everything was filmed in Louisiana, the Glade in a cow pasture.
  • Wes nearly didn't cast Dylan for the role of Thomas because of his hair. It was still in the same style as Dylans character, Stiles from Teen Wolf, and Wes wanted a different look for Thomas so that they wouldn't be compared.
  • The Maze Runer is the first film that Wes has directed, however none of the cast saw this as a problem and thought he was a fantastic director.
  • Kaya tells us that the cast grew so close on the set and that they have genuinely become best friends. They have a whatsapp group that they use to message each other everyday (I want to join).
  • Dylan is in every scene of the film, which makes sense because it is told from his characters point of view.
  • Wes says that only 30% of the maze is real, the rest is CGI. They built one big set of doors to shoot by.
  • There is 20 mins of footage of the cast having fun and being silly on DVD, I cant wait to see that, it sounds like they had so many fun times.
I had so much fun at this event even though it was very crowded. If you would like to watch the full Q&A there is a link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEutOrDFRto You should defiantly check it out because it was a very funny interview. It was so surreal seeing them in real life and I am so excited for this film. It comes out on October 10th in the UK. Check out IMDB for release dates in other countries.
