Book Review: Endgame the Calling

Kathy: I think the premise of this book was so exciting and just the idea of it will keep me reading the rest of the series, however I think the book could have played out better.

Review: Endgame is a thrilling rollercoaster you don't want to miss, read it now and feel the thrill. One thing I loved about this book was that it's told from nearly every players perspective meaning you can see how they individually interpret the game and you can also experience the way the players were prepared for endgame. We see that they have been trained in different ways and you see how that has shaped their character.  I also loved how this book takes us to different countries such as China and Turkey.  We go to famous land marks such as the Big wild goose pagoda and stone henge, which I really enjoyed because we gain knowlege about these interesting sites as well as enjoying the story. I ended up doing my own research on some of the sites because I wanted to get a better picture of what it looked like in my mind, for example if you don't know what the big wild goose pagoda is you should defiantly look it up because it's probably not what you think it is. The fact that this book adds a supernatural element to famous sites that everybody knows of, made this book even more interesting for me because it made it seem more real.

If you didn't already know this book has a lot of hype about it beacuse it is being made into a film, there will soon be an app that allows you to play your own endgame and you can win half a million dollars with this book. Inside the book are lots of odd pictures and words that will help you solve the puzzle and unlock the money being held at ceasers palace in las vegas.

My only criticisms about this book is that at first it is hard to keep up with whose story you are following because there are so many players and the names are hard to match to characters. However it soon becomes clear who each person is beacuse they all have something memorable about them and are all very different. I also kept expecting something big to happen because it's such a big book you expect a huge climax and a shocking surprise (which I definitely got) but the ending wasn't as good as I was expecting compared to the rest of the book. I feel it could have been more dramatic and I was confused with the ending and couldn't imagine what was going on. The ending had some heart breaking scenes that I couldn't believe happened because it was so unexpected.

I know the next books will definatly have us holding onto our chairs and to be honest I can't wait. This story can go in a lot of directions and I'm hoping that the players will be able to work togather and find a better solution to endgame however what will be will be.

Shadow and bone book reveiw!!

Review:

In this trilogy, Leigh Bardugo has created such a vast and mesmerising world, it is utterly epic and but totally believable. I thought this world could go down as one of my favourite fantasy worlds. I got a very medieval with Russian buildings vibe through out this whole series. But especially in this first book, the world is created so slowly and meticulously the world become almost vivid and real to you. The only thing that i found a little challenging was all the made up words there were allot of them, and i struggled to remember them all. Maybe an little glossary would have been nice at the back of the book.  

At first we meet Alina as a child in an orphanage so we get her background without it being forced on to us to try to make background. Then we meet her again as a new member of the first army. In is book she gets a huge character arch she goes from a crying little girl to a powerful woman attempting to defeat the darkling. The thing that most people talk about when they talk about this series is the love interests. In this first book there is the darkling and her best friend Mal. Mal is a handsome strong man, he is normal and everything she recognises as home. When the darkling turns up a whisks her off the a whole new world. She cant help be drawn to his power, and gracefulness. Its a great love triangle. And everyone has there opinion on who alina should chose.

The plot of this book was very good, although i do draw links between shadow and bone and a throne of glass by Sarah j.mass to me in my head the castles are the same and i feel they have were similar characters. So i feel they are very similar. As far as shadow and bone setting up its new series it was a solid first book that can only progress into a huge new ya fantasy world. The book did come full circle and we got some closure at the end of this book so it wasn't really a cliff hanger but still made me want the sequels. Overall i thought this book was amazing a great introduction to ya fantasy and this series, absolutely one of my favourite books i have read this year.

This is definitely a must read for all, and if you haven't already you need to pick this up and read it.
